Transforaminal Injections PDF Print E-mail

What is a Transforaminal Injection?

Transforaminal Injections are one of the most commonly used interventional treatments to address neck and low back pain, as well as radiating arm and leg pain. The epidural space can be accessed by several approaches (transforaminal, interlaminar, and caudal) in order to place steroid medication around the desired nerve roots and spinal cord area. Your physician will decide and discuss which approach will be the most effective and clinically indicated to target each patient’s specific problem.

What are the indications for Transforaminal Injection?

Transforaminal injection decreases swelling and inflammation and, as a result, decreases pain. Transforaminal Injections are indicated in painful conditions associated with herniated discs, spinal stenosis, sciatica, radiculopathy and other spinal conditions.

How can a Transforaminal Injection help with my pain?

It may take a series of up to three injections to see full benefit of the medication.
