Bursa Injection:

After an area of bursitis is identified by your physician, it may be decided that a bursa injection may be needed to help facilitate the healing process and decrease the pain. The area of bursitis is prepared and draped in sterile fashion and if necessary, the area over the bursa is anesthetized with a local anesthetic (numbing agent). The Bursa can be entered and drained if necessary, and then injected with a solution containing a corticosteroid and pain medications which serves as a potent anti-inflammatory and pain reliever. After the needle is removed from the bursa, a sterile bandaid is placed over the affected area.
